For a family weekend, I would book one main activity each day and leave the rest flexible. A full list of attractions is not much help if the kids are tired before the second stop. Here is how I would choose, using the operators' current information rather than promising a perfect weekend.
A short outing: the carousel
Salem's Riverfront Carousel lists free entry to the building and $2 individual rides. That makes it easier to separate looking around from buying rides. The posted regular hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Holiday and maintenance closures still need checking.
There is a $5 minimum for card purchases. I would bring cash for a single ride rather than assume a $2 card payment will work. The operator also lists free rides for people with disabilities and a monthly sensory hour. Check its current instructions before planning around either.
A longer activity: Gilbert House
Gilbert House Children's Museum lists hours of Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the entry gate closing at 4:30 p.m. General admission is $16, with separate rates for infants, members, seniors and military visitors. Check who in your group needs a ticket before setting a total budget.
The museum has both indoor and outdoor play. On a rainy day, I would not assume every activity will keep the group dry. Ask about current play-area access, food rules and any equipment your child needs.
Do not make Enchanted Forest the automatic Sunday plan
The Enchanted Forest website currently says it is closed for the season and will reopen March 20, 2027. That notice was checked October 24, 2026. It should not be offered as an available weekend stop this fall or winter. Check the operator again before a future visit.
Leave room to change the plan
I would use a park walk as an optional extra, not a second paid booking. For a show, check the specific age guidance and running time. A family-friendly venue does not mean every performance suits every child.
